We have adopted a pooch! Her name is Annie (she was being called "Angelina" at the shelter, along with her brother, Brad -- but that was too much for us... so we decided that the "Little Anne" and "Orphan Annie" references were close enough to Angelina to pass). We think she is a Black Mouth Cur mixed with a Catahoula Leopard. She is apparently around 10 months old, and originally from Arkansas.
So far, we think she is SMART. In a few hours she has learned Sit, and she has improved greatly in her leash skills. We are also working on Heel, Go, Stop, Kennel & Bed.
She is one CHILL dog. Tom calls her the Chillin' Villain, and also Bug (short for Love Bug). She doesn't bark. (We are glad for this -- because we had originally steered away from the idea of a hound of any kind because we didn't want a howler.)
We find it interesting that she seems not to have been exposed to anything in her short life yet. She didn't know what to do with a bone (but that didn't take too long for her to figure out!) or with any toys... she also doesn't know what to make of the stairs. She's shy -- but it appears that with enough belly rubbing, she'll be coming out of her shell soon.
I'm so sorry to report that after only a couple of days, Tom decided that he didn't think our life was right for a dog. So, sadly, we took Annie back to her Rescue. I'm loathe to take down the original blog, though -- because it would feel like erasing her -- which I can't do. I'm glad that Annie's picture is not on the Rescue website any more, which means that she's been adopted by someone else. I hope it works out for her.
