We didn't realize it had been 3+ months since we'd seen Marlo, Chic, Claire & Stella. Claire has really shown an interest in guitar; she was quite happy to play with Tom. Stella, of course, is happy doing just about anything -- especially jumping on her trampoline.

killer day for xcountry skiing

Yesterday, I had a morning meeting -- and we had dinner plans with friends. So Tom decided it would be too hectic to try to squeeze in a day of skiing between these events. However, when I got home from my meeting, it was so perfect outside that we couldn't refuse. So we raced up the mountain, and spent a couple of hours at Eldora. Tom went snow-boarding; I went x-country skiing. It was PERFECT.

CO beer

Tom recently went to a beer-pairing dinner, hosted by Avery beer (a local brew). He ended up joining the "Society for the Pursuit of Hoppiness." I think the (lifetime) membership was $15, and included a T-shirt...
Tom really enjoyed the dinner, and his membership gets him invitations to other similar events. All hail CO beers!

Tom's xmas present

This year, Tom's Christmas present was tickets to the Nuggets vs. Suns basketball game here in Denver (it was on 1/15). Tom was so excited to go that we arrived 1 1/2 hours early. At first, I thought this was absurd. However, it turned out to be very cool, because we got to watch the individual warm-ups (before the team warm-ups). Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash were lots of fun to watch... Despite the fact that the Suns lost (in overtime) we had a great time.

awesome Etown show tonight

Even though we had to part with Lanie (our apologies for dropping her off late enough that she nearly missed her flight! What can I say -- we just wanted her to stay here....) we continued to have fun today. We went with our neighbors to Etown -- which is a radio-show taped here in Boulder and then replayed on NPR. I took the camera: my plan was to get a shot of the marquee with Richie Havens' name on in. However, the marquee already had advertising for future shows! So part of the program will have to suffice...
The show tonight was GREAT. Havens sounded as great as ever -- I am particularly awed by musicians who can sing for 40+ years and not lose a thing. The other musical guest was a "newbee" named Angel Taylor. She had a fantastic voice, but I thought her song-writing was not the most sophisticated. I'll be looking forward to hearing music from her in the coming years as she matures (she just turned 20!)

We decided to try our hike in Yak Traks instead of snow-shoes. We didn't end up going a long way (only two miles; we had to stop when the snow got too deep) but we definitely covered ground a lot faster than we would have on the shoes.

darn cold day at RMNP

Yesterday it was about 20 degrees at RMNP. On a calm & sunny day, that's plenty warm for snow-shoeing. We had the sun, but it was WINDY.
We started at Bear Lake, which was (therefore) COLD. We quickly moved on from there -- onto a short trail from Bear Lake to Alberta Falls. Fortunately, as soon as we were back into the trees (where the wind was not a factor), we were MUCH more comfortable.

beginning & end to the day

Yesterday, Tom, Lanie & I went up to RMNP for some snow-shoeing. We started the day at a local diner for a filling breakfast. I ordered the hot chocolate -- and I was not disappointed! At the end of the day, Tom served up his rendition of the BLT: a mixture of bacon, avocado, tomato, thyme, basil, olive oil, and salt & pepper. Very filling snack.

late New Year's Eve entry

This New Year's Eve we had a great time with our neighbors. Tom taught the guys (Don in the middle, Jack on the right) how to throw pizza dough. Then they made a bunch of YUMMY pizzas -- we ploughed through 5 pizzas that night, and had (I think) 6 leftover dough-balls. Thanks to Lynne for this photo from her cell phone...
