this year's pumpkins
This year, Tom grew all of our pumpkins. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that they could freeze (if left out on the porch)... and that if they froze and then thawed, they'd be ruined. Happily, Tom was creative enough to work with the "squishy" pumpkins -- to make them part of the scene.

sick, sick people....
This is one of my partners, Susan, and her husband, Sean. I told Susan she needs professional help. ;-)
Their daughter, Maddison, made an excellent vampire. She informed Tom that she's a "twilight vampire" -- thus she doesn't have/need fangs. Clearly, Tom should have known this.

what a difference a day makes
We have our normal weather back! (Too bad there is, apparently, a spot on our camera lens. Other than that, this is a pretty accurate representation of what our day looked like today...)

snow shoeing around the block
We rarely have enough snow down here to snow-shoe (or x-country ski) around our neighborhood.
Not so today! We had a lovely "hike" around our block... with lots of big, wet, thick, east-coast-style snowflakes.

snow day
This is the birdhouse that Adrianna made us this summer. Since we didn't add central heat, I doubt it's occupied right now....
Our neighbor's daughter, Hope, and Tom & I made a snow-cat. It's kinda hard to take snow-pictures (there's not enough contrast!) but I think you can see the body, tail, paws....
We are having quite a storm right now. Good timing for me: I have 3 days off. So we can play in it, and not have to drive anywhere!

more fishin'
We had a gorgeous day yesterday... sunny and 75. We walked over to Thomas Reservoir, and the boys fished while I jogged. Perfect day.
admiring the ceiling at the Boulderado
The Boulderado is the oldest hotel in town (about a hundred years old). It has some great architecture (and even better happy hour prices).
checkin' out Boulder
Steve came to visit for a long weekend. We had a very relaxing vacation, including the obligatory trip to Pearl Street in Boulder. All was well: Sarah and I shopped/visited all of the art galleries, while Tom, Erik & Steve sampled the Mountain Sun Brewery and Salt (formerly known as Tom's Tavern).

Molly joins the Whiskey Bottles
The Whiskey Bottles played the Walnut Room on Saturday night. This was Molly's live-performance debut, and she did an excellent job.

journal club prep
I was highly amused at the sight of our downstairs-refrigerator prior to journal club. Not a bad refrigerator-loot to stumble onto... 15 bowls of pumpkin panacotta, and Tom's bottled-beer selection.
Since our journal club was just 2 weeks before Hallowe'en, I decided to do the table up in style. On the one hand, I'm sure my grandmother would be happy that her silver is being used. On the other hand, I doubt she would appreciate that it was set upon a plastic bat & goblin "tablecloth." hehehe.

supporting courses
Tom had help this month for journal club. He put Erik in charge of the appetizers, Sarah came up with the first course, and I did the dessert.

delicious cookies
Sarah made these WONDERFUL almond-covered, chocolate-dipped, buttery-goodness cookies. They didn't last long...

yummy trout
Thanks to Sarah for taking these photos! The boys went fishing up at Barker Reservoir (in Nederland). This is one of Tom's favorite places to fish; I'm sure you can see why.
the long awaited arrival of Erik
The original plan was for Sarah to spend the month of September here in Boulder (house-sitting for our friends) and for Erik to join her by mid-September. Unfortunately, work kept getting in the way....
So Erik didn't arrive until October 4th. But the boys didn't waste much time before getting out for some excellent fall fishing.
